About us
BarSide Gatherings, or “BSide” for short, is a community-based sustainable event project that has dreams of helping any and every local bar community. It is called “BSide” because behind a bar we all stand beside each other.
Each BSide event provides the opportunities to educate bartenders, provide space for a bar-item related exchange, and the time to develop deeper connections in their own community that is accessible by going to their own community and offered for free to remove barriers of entry.
By hosting a BSide event in each community, leaders are then taught the scaffolding to be able to perpetuate future BSide events, empowering them to create change with their own hands.
What’s sustainability for us?
Bside is built on four pillars of sustainability: 1. Community & Social, 2. Physical & Environmental, 3. Mental & Educational, and 4. Economical. BSide events provide safe spaces for genuine connection. It hosts bar-related item exchanges, and to date approximately 300 kg of items have been exchanged, diverting from the landfill and presenting a solution for brands and bartenders to responsibly dispose of their unwanted bar-related items, and presenting them to the hands of other bartenders that want or need them. It provides free education, from masterclasses, cocktail labs, blind tastings to classes on urban foraging, upcycling refuse and teaching how to sew.
It aims to give bartenders new skills to use in and out of the bar. Lastly, it injects funds to local bartenders, educators, and artists for teaching and volunteering. It provides skills that could become secondary sources of revenue for bartenders and/or the bars that they work at. This is all done because the team at BarSide Gatherings believe that only by working and learning together today, we will be able to make a better future for tomorrow.
