About Fito Pottery

Our adventure started in 2021 when Alex decided to sign up for a pottery course. Alex instantly fell in love with the whole process, got a subscription at Studio Pansa in Amsterdam and spent months studying there. We decided to visit Tony Oorschot (potter with 42 years experience and Tess’s great-aunt) in Canada to get trained there. Not only did we learn a lot there about the production process, but also about what it takes to run a studio and shop.

Three years later and we have our own studio space at home where we produce lots of different things. We follow our own creative inspiration but also do a lot of commissioned work like sets, special one-off pieces or other requests.

Our biggest inspiration is nature. We love to use organic shapes, colors and patterns. We sometimes stray a bit more into colorful work but naturally always drift back to a more earthy color scheme. Our work is a mix of wheel thrown stuff (mostly done by Alex) and sculptured stuff (mostly done by Tess).

Production

If you want to have anything made specifically for you, please reach out to us. Do keep in mind that we make everything from scratch so production time will be around 1 to 1,5 months. We have space for a few commissions at the same time. For inspiration please take a look at our instagram account @fito.pottery. Most clay / color / shape combinations are available for commissioning.

Our shop will be updated frequently with new pieces. Stock is limited as most of our pieces are made either in pairs or as one-off designs. Pieces that are made in pairs may vary a bit in size and shape, since everything is made by hand.

What´s sustainability for Fito Pottery?

Sustainability to us is all about balance, slow living. Pottery is a big part of that. Every piece we make is created entirely by hand. It all starts as a ball of clay and is consciously shaped during a long process, until it finds its final form. The time and attention that is needed for pottery teaches the maker the worth of products, time and resources.

Clay in its raw form can be used over and over again. Every bit of clay we lose during the production process is reclaimed and used later for a new piece. We are also very conscious about firing. The oven only goes on when it’s entirely filled up, we make sure it’s the most efficient use of electricity this way.

An unique product

A product that is unique and one of a kind, also promotes good care and durability. You want to use your favourite cup for as long as possible. A completely different experience than having cheap, mass produced cups that would be easy to replace if they broke.
